Only a few days to election day, Saturday Nov. 19th. Please venture out and vote.
I believe passionately in Public Education. Public Education relies on the trust of the community and must be built on the strong support and involvement of the community. The Board of Education must manage in a way that builds and informs public support. Trustees must avoid real or perceived "conflict of interest" so that the public and employees have confidence that the decisions that are made and will be made in the future are beyond reproach. The allocation of financial and other resources must be managed so that the quality of education can be sustained and improved. This is not a task for one person but for an entire community. Thank you to "the many" who have dedicated their energy and expertise to the important work of the school district. Your community is grateful and our children are the better for your commitment.
In 2008 many people approached me to run for School Trustee because they and others in the community:
- had lost confidence in the School Board due to many failed attempts at building the third middle school and replacing the High School,
- felt unwelcome in Board meetings, felt that the School Board was a closed shop, an old boys' network where information was held closely and not shared,
- were concerned about how decisions were made and
- were very concerned about financial management as over $1,000,000 in losses had been run up in the Business Company.
I have worked over the past three years to address these issues and I hope that you will take some time to review what I have been doing and what more I hope to accomplish as a School Trustee in New Westminster. I am asking for your support for re-election as your School Trustee.
